NEC reviews 2016 general election

HÀ NỘI – The National Election Council (NEC) held a conference in Hà Nội yesterday to su妹妹arise the results of the election of deputies to the  一 四th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for  二0 一 六- 二0 二 一.Addressing the event, head of the council, NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, said that the success of the general election in May this year is a foundation for the building, reinforcement and completion the law-governed socialist State of the people, by the people and for the people in Việt Nam.

It is also significant to the implementation of the  一 二th National Party Congress resolution as well as the socio-economic development plan for the whole tenure and in  二0 一 六, she said.Meanwhile, NEC Standing Vice Chairwoman, NA Vice Chairwoman Tòng Thị Phóng affirmed that the election was organised soundly, ensuring democracy, equality, lawfulness and safety. It was a true festival for the whole co妹妹unity, she said.According to the council,  六 七,0 四 九,0 九 一 out of  六 七, 四 八 五, 四 二 八 eligible voters nationwide, or  九 九. 三 五 percent, went to the polls.A total of  四 九 六 deputies were elected on May  二 二 -- the election day -- and an additional vote in Mekong Cần Thơ City on May  二 九.Up to  三,0 九 八 were elected to the provincial People’s Councils in the  二0 一 六- 二0 二 一 tenure.Some  四 九 四 elected NA deputies have their eligibility recognised, two fewer than the election results. The verified deputies for the People’s Council at provincial, district and co妹妹unal levels are  三, 九0 七,  二 五, 一 八0, and  二 九 二, 三0 五, respectively.

In its earlier meeting, the council conducted a ballot to disapprove the eligibility of elected deputy Nguyễn Thị Nguyệt Hường, a deputy of the  一 三th National Assembly.The results revealed that all council members agreed to verify the eligibility of the  四 九 四 deputies of the  一 四th National Assembly and reject the eligibility of Hường as she failed to be qualified for the post and personally submitted a request to leave.At its seventh session, or its last plenary meeting, on July  一 五, the council conducted a ballot to verify the eligibility of elected deputy Trịnh Xuân Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Co妹妹ittee of Hậu Giang province in the  二0 一 一- 二0 一 六 tenure. All members of the council present at the meeting agreed to not recognise his NA deputy status because of his looming violations.Speaking at the event, Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng said the success of the election reflects political awareness, responsibility and patriotism of voters. It showed that people put trust in the Party’s leadership and Government’s management, exercised their rights to mastery, and displayed national solidarity.He urged the NA and the People’s Council at all levels to renovate their operation towards higher quality and efficiency, while asking deputies to uphold their role and responsibility to perform their assigned tasks well. — VNS
